College Football Betting — Florida-LSU, Notre Dame-USC Offer Some Saturday Highlights

By Charles Jay

Are there some marquee games on tap for Saturday night in college football? You bet there are. And as we move into a big evening of action in the continuation of WagerWAR, let’s take a look at some of the games that highlight the collegiate menu.

And keep in mind that the numbers you’ll see are infused with reduced juice from BetAnySports, where you’ll get to place wagers in real time after kickoff with Live Betting Ultra.

FLORIDA at LSU
BetAnySports Line: LSU -13.5 (-107), Total 55.5 (-105)

LSU’s offense and quarterback Joe Burrow have been humming along, doing just about anything they’ve pleased. But now they are going to hit a roadblock of sorts. Florida may be somewhat erratic on offense, and going with a backup quarterback (Kyle Trask) but they have a lot of speed on the defensive side, allowing just 8.8 points per game thus far. Their head coach Dan Mullen, who once upon a time was Tim Tebow’s tutor in the spread (before taking the head job at Mississippi State) is a dangerous dog, going 17-8 ATS in that role. So we’re just fine taking the points.

ARMY at WESTERN KENTUCKY
BetAnySports Line: Army -4.5 (-105), Total 43.5 (-109)

Western Kentucky has found some stability at the quarterback position with Ty Storey, a transfer from Arkansas, in the wake of Steven Duncan’s injury. They are also in the top 35 nationally against the run. But this is different situation for them. The Hilltoppers have not faced an option offense since the 2014 season, and while this version of the Cadets doesn’t quite compare with last year’s, but with Kelvin Hopkins the offense can continue to operate with a certain level of efficiency.

And perhaps it makes Army’s job easier that WKU is among the nation’s bottom five in rushing. Don’t underestimate how well-prepared Jeff Monken has his team on a week-to-week basis. We’ll lay the points with West Point, which has covered seven of their last eight on the road.

USC at NOTRE DAME
BetAnySports: Notre Dame -10.5 (-109), Total 59 (-103)

Kedon Slovis gets the start again at quarterback after coming back from a concussion. Frosh Matt Fink filled in for him. Both of them threw three interceptions in their last start. Does that mean they are getting the hang of things in the Air Raid offense, or just the opposite? It seems that they were able to surprise people at the beginning of the season, but maybe that’s come to an end.

We know USC has athletes, and that Clay Helton may have his job on the line at any time. But the difference here is that the Trojans have been too sloppy with the ball (14 turnovers), while the Irish have coughed it up only four times. That shifts an advantage over to Notre Dame.

NAVY at TULSA
BetAnySports Line: Navy -1 (-105), Total 53 (-108)

So seriously, if you are the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, how long as you carrying the sting of that three-overtime loss to SMU with you? It might be quite a burden. And it’s especially difficult since it’s now a big shift from preparing for the Air Raid-like attack of the Mustangs to the option of Navy.

Did they learn any lessons from last season, when the Middies traveled 389 yards by land against them? We grant you that Navy is coming off some emotion of its own, as they get a leg up on the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy with a win over Air Force last week. But they are not only formidable on the ground, they’re not bad stopping either – 12th in the nation in rushing defense. That could serve to making Tulsa one-dimensional. So we’ll grab the visitor in this near-pick’em situation.

FRESNO STATE at AIR FORCE
BetAnySports Line: Air Force -3 (-115), Total 50.5 (-108)

It’s interesting that Fresno State hasn’t really beaten anyone of note quite yet, but Air Force doesn’t do what their conquerors do. The Falcons are off that academy battle against Navy, and they have not been profitable coming off these games that impact the Commander-in-Chief Trophy race (4-14 ATS in last 18). The Bulldogs are not in a bad scheduling situation, coming off a bye week, so that affords some extra time to prepare for the option, something they haven’t seen since the game against Air Force three years ago. Under current coach Jeff Tedford, FSU is on a 13-2-2 ATS road run.
